Allyson Grey
Mystical geometry and a celebration of color is found in the paintings of Allyson Grey. Her works employ a measured grid that coalesce into crystalline images of order or plunge the viewer into a chaotic universe of deconstruction. The mosaic-like scheme of the mandalic paintings relate them to Tantric art and Jain cosmological diagrams, while the overlapping disorder of the Chaos paintings relate to fractal patterns and the science of chaos dynamics.
Grey describes the painting Jewel Net of Indra as follows: "At Indra's heavenly abode hangs a net, infinite in all directions. At every intersection of the net there lies a jewel so highly polished that it reflects all other jewels in the net. The painting points to that space of infinite interconnectedness that is the real underpinning of all beings and things in the universe."
Grey has an M.F.A. degree from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and has taught art at several universities and colleges in the United States. Her work has been exhibited widely, including one-person shows at Stux Gallery and O.K. Harris Gallery in New York City. She has had numerous commissions of permanent public works, including a 24 foot mural in a Massachusetts bank building. Her paintings are included in many corporate and private collections. |
